Reticulated Silver and Citrine Earrings with 24kt Keum Boo
$212.00 CAD
These one of a kind earrings are delicate and feminine, dark and mysterious; Companion pieces to the reticulated silver ring also available on this shop update.
I love these earrings for their character and uniqueness, their grit and texture, the flashes of gold.
I made them with reticulated sterling silver (metal that is heated almost to the melting point repeatedly to bring up that lovely, unique and unrepeatable surface texture). Reticulating the sterling silver brings the fine silver to the surface allowing for the application of 24kt keum boo gold sheets which have been experimentally placed to allow both earrings their own unique expression.
Keum Boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of gold to silver. Here I have also placed some of the gold under the light citrine stones to give them some added warmth and interest.
The tube set stones are lab created white sapphires, and the silver is oxidised with a dark patina to show off the gold, the white sapphires, and the glorious texture. I think of the texture a little like the surface of the moon, or topographic maps. But mostly, these earrings remind me a big beautiful chunk of pyrite I have displayed in my home. How does the earth make such beautiful things? These earrings hold a lot of firey and protective energy.
Lovingly hand fabricated with attention to detail in my home studio in St.Albert, Canada. Ready to ship.
